The importance of filtration and genuine parts

A HydroTap is an investment in your employee wellbeing. Providing pure-tasting filtered water, as well as filtered boiling water on tap is convenient, hydrating, and eliminates the need for single-use plastic bottles. For any workplace, it’s a win-win. But how do you keep water at its best? As with any appliance, it’s important to look after the maintenance and servicing of your HydroTap. 

As technical manager here at Zip, I understand the importance of keeping your HydroTap working properly. To help with maintenance and troubleshooting, we have FAQs on our website, as well as helpful how-to videos – to keep your water flowing and hydration goals in check. 

That being said, one of the most important aspects to keeping your HydroTap working properly is replacing the filter regularly. And although it can be tempting to save money in the short-term and buy a non-genuine filter, you deserve the best, and so does your HydroTap.

Finding the right filter, and understanding the benefits of using a genuine Zip filter can feel complex, so to help, I’ve answered some frequently asked questions. What is the difference between a genuine and non genuine filter?

The biggest difference between a genuine and non-genuine filter is the performance. Of course, non-genuine filters will still work to some degree, but a genuine Zip filter will filter out any particles larger than 0.2 micron (including dirt, lead, and microplastics), whereas most non genuine filters can only filter particles larger than 5 micron, which is significantly larger. 

Zip genuine filters have also been tested and complies to NSF/ANSI 42 and 53 standards. NSF and WRAS approval means you can be certain that the water dispensed is the purest tasting. 

As well as this, the capacity of a genuine Zip filter is usually larger, meaning it will provide filtered water for longer than a non-genuine version.

 

Why is a Zip filter more expensive than a non genuine filter?

All the reasons above, but essentially, better performance. A car and a supercar will both get you to the same destination, however the performance and experience is very different between the two.

 

What are the potential problems with using non genuine parts?

The biggest problem with a non-genuine part is that you cannot guarantee the quality and performance. On top of this, some non-genuine filters could potentially cause damage to your HydroTap. 

More importantly, with a Zip filter, all parts along the water path have been BS6920 tested and are WRAS approved. This ensures any material in contact with water is safe for human consumption.
