As we are all too aware, the outbreak of COVID-19 is placing a significant burden on healthcare systems worldwide.
The speed at which the situation evolved in the UK was alarming and subsequently the Government had to mobilise quickly to counter the prediction that the country’s hospitals would soon run out of beds. In response, the Government made the decision to set up a number of Nightingale Hospitals.
These hospitals typically involved large conference centres in major cities across the country being transformed into temporary hospitals to increase healthcare capacity and potentially save thousands of lives. So far, Nightingale Hospitals have been set up in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol and Harrogate, Exeter & Washington.
It was an enormous national feat to get these hospitals operational in as little time as possible. One of the UK’s largest electrical suppliers and a long-standing distributor client of ours had been contracted by the NHS to help get the Nightingale Hospital in Birmingham up and running in an extremely tight timeline so we wanted to help where we could.
The Birmingham Nightingale Hospital required the prompt same-day delivery and installation of hospital grade hand washing equipment to be able to open the facility. With just a six hour window to achieve this - and with the Zip UK office located 150 miles from Birmingham - it was going to take a mammoth effort to meet the deadline.
The team proudly delivered 50 instantaneous water heaters within this time window, and they were installed and ready for use when Birmingham’s Nightingale Hospital opened the following morning. Zip has since been contracted to supply products to further temporary healthcare facilities that have been set up to help save lives in this crisis.
It is an honour for all the team to be able to lend a hand in the incredible efforts of so many who worked tirelessly to get the emergency Nightingale Hospitals operational in record time, ensuring patients can continue to get the treatment they need.
It is at times like this we are reminded that we are all in this together and collaboration is key to building a brighter tomorrow.
