The brief

The refurbishment of Pontypridd Primary School was a large project aiming to achieve net zero carbon status. WSP, working with selected suppliers, including Zip Water, worked to remove the school’s reliance on fossil fuels by fully electrifying the building. The wider project involved improving the building fabric, as well as utilising energy efficient technologies to create a more sustainable education centre in Pontypridd. Zip was able to consult and provide selections and design assistance to specify instantaneous water heaters across the school. In education settings, the importance of safety in any appliance is paramount. When specifying for a school environment, providing products with a high level of both safety and efficiency is key. This is especially true with a refurbishment project, where it’s critical that materials and products are energy efficient and will stand the test of time.

The solution

WSP chose to work with Zip Water to specify InLine water heaters throughout the refurbished school, for ultimate efficiency and safety. With some models of Inline tested to TMV3 standard, there are options for use by vulnerable individuals, ideal for use in healthcare and education settings. InLine instantaneous water heaters use bare wire heating technology, ensuring hot water is delivered instantly with maximum efficiency. By immersing the heating element directly in the flow path, heat is transmitted directly to the water achieving a faster heat-up time, and providing a much more energy efficient solution than traditional heating methods. Along with local photovoltaics and air source heat pumps, Zip InLine was able to help fully electrify the building.
