By designing Waterfront House, a fantastic collaborative workspace overlooking the lake in Leicester’s Grove Park, SGP grasped the opportunity to build a space that would showcase their design capabilities.
The team moved in May 2018 and the new office space is a complete contrast to SGP’s previous office located on London Road, which was compartmentalised into individual studios. As designers of their new workplace, the architects at SGP set out to create a light and vibrant, state-of-the-art office that would increase team collaboration and productivity.
In keeping with this, the office interior was fitted out with the most advanced technology and SGP didn’t miss a trick when it came to installing an effective and innovative drinking water solution. Following a recommendation from their EME sub-contractors, SGP had two HydroTap G4 Elites installed, dispensing highly filtered boiling and chilled water at a touch of a button.
Byron Magumise, architect and project manager, explains the benefits the HydroTaps have brought to Waterfront House: “There has been an all-round positive response to the new HydroTaps in the office. There’s no longer any waiting around for kettles to boil.”
Energy use was an important consideration when the architects were specifying for their office, which boasts sustainable aspects such as a pioneering water-based air-conditioning system and solar panels plus solar water heating and natural solar shading.
Zip Water UK’s commitment to sustainability aligns exactly with that ethos and their HydroTap range comes with world-class environmental credentials. Smart energy saving modes, such as the auto-sleep function, alongside an energy management system, mean power consumption can be reduced by up to 30%. For a busy work hub with both clients and colleagues requiring a constant supply of great-tasting water, without the need for single-use plastic bottles, this efficiency hasn’t gone amiss.
“At any one time there can be upwards of 70 people in the building, including clients and visitors who are welcome to take a look around the office,” Byron continues. “That being the case, our drinking water system had to meet the demands of a busy work environment but also look the part.”
“Everything in the office has its place. It is a striking but simple design, which also makes for a highly efficient work environment.” Byron concludes, “By reducing the amount of materials we used, we have kept the colour palette to a minimum. The interior is mostly white with grey or chrome fixings so the elegant polished chrome of the HydroTaps fits the aesthetic perfectly.”
